Davis, California

For those of you not here with me, I'll try to describe why I like the town of Davis, California so much:

-You can ride your bike anywhere through town, and most people do.
-There is a roundabout near my apartment! And roundabouts all over campus for bike intersections.
-There are beautiful greenbelts, one of which is right behind my apartment, that are great for walking or biking.
-This place is safe- kids are all over the place biking late at night!
-There are tons of parks throughout the city.
-People are outdoors, being active, enjoying the weather all the time.
-It is cold in the mornings and at night (50s!), but it warms up during the day to the 80s or 90s. This means that I can leave my windows open and that I almost never have to use my air conditioner.
-Almost all of the buildings are 2 stories or less- no high rises.
-The town is completely surrounded by farms, one of which has miniature horses!
-There are redwood trees, cork trees, olive trees, fig trees, pomegranate trees, oak trees, etc... the trees are beautiful.
-The town has actual British double decker buses that it uses on the bus routes!
-There are farmer's markets twice a week in Central Park, the huge park downtown, with live music and festival-like activities.
-There aren't really any slummy areas- the whole place seems taken care of and cleaned up
-There are christmas lights downtown at night!
-Davis has a bunch of unique restaurants and stores, with very few chains or big-box stores.
-You can recycle everything here.
-Davis is very small, but it's really diverse! There are all sorts of different restaurants, there is an Islamic center, a Jewish pre-school, a Chinese Christian church, a Methodist church, and a Mormon church, and I haven't even explored the whole city.
-Davis is 15 minutes away from Sacramento, 1/2 hour away from Napa Valley, 1 1/2 hours away from San Francisco and the bay area, and 2 hours away from Lake Tahoe.
